This is how we begin celebrating the holiday. On our table, we have traditional pilaf, dyed eggs, and plates of greens. My parents are originally from Vardenis. Because of this, our table also includes dolma with hemp and boiled dried fruits.
Easter, or Zatik, is a joyful Christian holiday in Armenia. Families clean and cook on Holy Saturday, then go to church on Easter Sunday. People greet each other with:
“Krisdos haryav i merelots! After church, families eat together, play the egg-tapping game “tchokh”, and celebrate with red eggs, a symbol of new life.
